The first day of school is Aug. 25, and motorist should expect increased morning traffic at the gates of RAF Lakenheath. Security forces will do all they can to keep the gates and roadways safe, but they need your help.

The following are some recommendations to make the morning commute safer for everyone.

Leave early. Allow yourself enough time to safely drive to work or school and process through the gate.

Car pool. Car pooling helps reduce congestion.

Know the rules. Motorists should have their base entry credentials ready before they get to the gate. Motorists who have left their common access card in the reader should proceed directly to the visitor control center at Gate 1  for a pass. Drivers will not be granted access without it.

Be safe. There are many children and vehicles passing through the same area at the same time. A large number of children and parents will walk across Lordswalk and travel through the Nathan Gate.

Stop for pedestrians in the crosswalk - It's the law.

With everyone's assistance the morning commute can be safe and everyone will be able to get where they need to be on time.
