  • Veterans of Foreign Wars commander visits RAF Mildenhall

    The National Commander-in-Chief for Veterans of Foreign Wars, William J. “Doc” Schmitz, and Deputy Director of the National Veterans Service, Mike Figlioli, visited RAF Mildenhall Dec. 18, 2019. As part of the tour, Schmitz and Figlioli received a 100th Air Refueling Wing mission brief and toured the Airmen Family and Readiness Center, air traffic control tower and the Dewey R. Christopher Professional Development Center.

  • Family of WWII veterans visit RAF Mildenhall to trace footsteps, memories

    Eighty years ago today, shortly after the start of World War II, 24 Wellington bombers took to the skies from RAF Mildenhall, RAF Feltwell and RAF Honington, together forming a combined force which carried out daylight bombing raids on German ships in Heligoland Bight, Germany. It was Dec. 18, 1939, and the engagement lasted less than one hour – woefully resulting in the Royal Air Force losing 12 aircraft and 57 Airmen.

  • Team Mildenhall hosts annual holiday cookie drive

    The 100th Air Refueling Wing and 352nd Special Operations Wing hosted the annual Holiday Cookie Drive to provide base dorm residents a comforting taste of home. The cookie drive takes place during the first part of December to provide the opportunity for first sergeants and base leadership to show support to Airmen who currently live in the dorms.

The Bloody Hundredth is the only permanent U.S. air refueling wing in the European theater, providing the critical air refueling "bridge" which allows the Expeditionary Air Force to deploy around the globe at a moment's notice.

    Anytime, day or night, KC-135 Stratotankers and other transient aircraft that pass through RAF Mildenhall hold vital communication codes which allow the team to get the mission done. This critical information is organized, packaged and passed onto aircrews by Airmen from the 100th Operations Support Squadron combat crew communications team, and securing messages is the name of the game.
